Overview of design streamlines worldwide and invol... Although these trends depend upon both the personality of each designer and an increase in the blending of cultures, given the mobility of the diverse creative players who naturally react in a universal fashion, it is the brands that infuse the notion of cultural origin in design. Ubisoft Montreal by Lemay The video game studio Ubisoft Montréal celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2012, celebrating 15 years of creativity, success and excellence in Montreal's business community.  This celebration was the opportunity to launch an important design competition to redesign the interior space of their head office and studio.  Previous to Ubisoft acquiring this building, it served as a textile factory which was built in 1903 in the Mile-End neighbourhood of Montreal. This private competition launched by Ubisoft Montréal, in partnership with the Bureau du design de la Ville de Montréal, aimed at finding a design firm that would oversee the renovation project and to ensure it integrates the latest trends in design, technology and ergonomics. By understanding the client needs, the design firm recognized that the newly designed spaces would have to be in constant evolution, easy to modify, adaptable and correspond to the on-going needs of each department and team. In addition, Ubisoft conveyed to the design team that the design of their office and studio environments are an important factor for the attraction and retention of the best talent available and is an essential tool to ensure the employee satisfaction and productivity. The firm Lemay has been chosen to meet this challenge, primarily because they centred their design concept around the needs of everyday users. This conference will allow participants to understand and see first hand the project submitted by Lemay's talented architects and how designers met this challenge. Read more

Let's start thinking again from the children's point of view!  Returning nature where we can feel it with our fingers: Flowerssori Furniture, a sensorial and ecological approach to children design inspired by the Montessori philosophy.  The Flowerssori project is the outcome of the long intellectual search of two architects who have decided to make a fresh start involving the ethics of the "real", and to place their bets on the future. The feel for nature and the fascination exerted by the world of Maria Montessori were both consequential of and synergetic with the determination to develop a new type of furniture. This, we felt, should not be a small scale reproduction of an "adult" piece, but would have to become an object truly designed according to the ergonomic and sensorial features a child requires.   Read more
