ABOUT

To become a  member of the Association, you have to meet the admissions criteria regarding education standards. You will automatically be admitted in the Association if your profile corresponds to the typical academic background. If you possess an atypical profile, your application will be studied by the committee of admission, which will determine if you can integrate the Association.

If you meet the admission criteria, you will join the Association as a provisory, certified or student member. If you are teacher exercing in the field of design, you will need to integrate the Association as a certified member before obtaining the status of educator member.

WHY BECOMING A MEMBER ?

☞ Be part of a community of professionals recognized for their competencies and their expertise by industry members and clients;

☞ Contribute to the profession’s recognition and participate in the public’s protection;

☞ Get the support from APDIQ for your professional needs (general inquiries about the practice, tools, references, etc.);

☞ By become a member of APDIQ, you also become a member of the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), the national association;

☞ Take part in the professional development program and access quality conferences and seminars during events organised par the association and its partners;

☞ Take advantage of discounts and of benefits reserved to members (insurances, softwares and online services, contracts, events, listing in two Members’ Directory (APDIQ and IDC), design magazines, etc.).


LES ÉTAPES D'ADMISSION

Candidate with a regular profile:

1. Fill out the Admission form available online;
2. Send the required documents to administration@apdiq.com (PDF format);
3. Evaluation or admission request by the Board of Directors.
4. If you are accepted, you will receive a letter of acceptance as well as an invoice for your memebrship fees;
5. Upon reception of your payment of membership fees, you officially become a member of APDIQ.

Candidate with a non-standard profile (with degree/diploma that are equivalent):

1. Fill out the Admission form available online;
2. Send the required documents to administration@apdiq.com (PDF format);
3. Evaluation of candidates by the Admission Committee;
4. Submission of candidates to the Board of Directors for approval;
5. If you are accepted, you will receive a letter of acceptance as well as an invoice for your memebrship fees;
6. Upon reception of your payment of membership fees, you officially become a member of APDIQ.

If your application is rejected, you will receive a letter stating the reasons of this decision and the steps you may take in order to meet the admission requirements.

Candidate with a regular profile  :

1. PDF version of a degree or diploma in interior design regonized by the association;
2. An up-to-date resumé;
3. Birth certificate or any other official identification which includes your birth date;

If you are a member of another provincial association:

1. A Membre’s certificate from the provincial association proving your status for the current year.

Candidate with a non-standard profile :

1. Copies all degrees and diplomas (interior design and others);
2. An up-to-date resumé;
3. Birth certificate or any other official identification which includes your birth date;
4. Portfolio (pdf format : images, conceptual rendering and sets of plans of a few  complete projects).
5. Peers recognition : two letters of reference of interior design professionals, members of APDIQ.

If you have a degree from abroad: or a canadian or quebec degree in a related field* :

6. Equivalences from the Ministry of Immigration for all degees or diplomas;

If you have a degree from a canadian or quebec institution in a related field* :

*Degrees or diplomas related to the discipline :

•Bachelor of environmental design;
•Bachelor of architecture;
•Bachelor of industrial design;
•College diplôma (DEC) in architecture.

Here is the most recent list of the Interior Design degrees from accredited institutions, that are recognized by professional association in interior design in other provinces.

In 2017, the recognized institutions in the rest of Canada are:

  • Academy of Design, TORONTO at RCC INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY // Ontario

Any person holding a degree or diploma from outside of Canada must provide the association with a comparative equivalence of such degree or diploma from the Ministry of Immigration of Quebec. If the equivalence corresponds to one of the degrees or diplomas mentioned above, the candidate’s file will be submitted to the admission committee.  The equivalence will have to be sent with the originial certificate. LES DIFFÉRENTS TYPES DE MEMBRES

Toute personne qui pratique le design d’intérieur, qui satisfait aux critères d’admission établit par le Conseil d’administration et qui respecte les conditions nécessaires à l’obtention de la licence «Designer d’intérieur certifié APDIQⓇ». La licence Designer d’intérieur certifié APDIQⓇ est une marque déposée au nom de l’APDIQ.

L’APDIQ exige l’obtention de l’examen Nord-Américain de Qualification en Design d’Intérieur (NCIDQ).

Toute personne, détenant soit un DEC en design d’intérieur (570.E0) et/ou un Baccalauréat en design d’intérieur d’une des écoles reconnues par l’APDIQ est automatiquement admissible. Les programmes reconnus sont ceux qui dispensent 1965 heures de formation en design d’intérieur ainsi que de 660 heures de formation générale.

Ps : lorsqu’un membre provisoire réussit son examen NCIDQ, il devient automatiquement membre certifié en cours d’année et la cotisation est ajustée.

Toute personne, qui n’est pas déjà membre de l’APDIQ, qui désire devenir membre enseignant, devra d’abord être acceptée à titre de membre certifié.

Toute personne inscrite à un programme en design d’intérieur de l’une des institutions scolaires reconnus devient automatiquement membre étudiant de l’Association. La personne doit résider au Québec pour conserver son statut.

  • DEC en design d’intérieur (Programme 570.E0)
  • Baccalauréat en design d’intérieur
  • DEC-Bac en design d’intérieur

Toute personne, qu’elle soit designer d’intérieur ou non, qui aura rendu des services exceptionnels à la profession de designer d’intérieur, pourra être nommée membre honoraire de l’Association par acte du Conseil. Cette nomination de membre honoraire pourra être à vie ou pour une période déterminée.

Si vous ne répondez pas à ces exigences scolaires mais que vous possédez une solide expérience professionnelle en design d’intérieur, une démarche de reconnaissance des acquis et des compétences pourrait être envisagée.
