ABOUT

The Association of professional interior designers of Quebec (APDIQ) is a not-for-profit organisation that serves as a classification and certification of the profession in order to insure its recognition and to protect a professional individual competency as well as its mean of accreditation. It is the only reference organisation that controls the owners of the title Designer d’intérieur certifié APDIQ® through an accreditation.

The APDIQ has over 900 members of all categories and a team composed of employees, volunteers and consultants, each contributing to the reputation of the Designers d’intérieur certifiés APDIQ®.

Their leitmotiv is to maintain and develop the level of professional excellence of interior designers, to regroup all professionals that meet the Association standards and therefore contribute to the recognition of the profession and the protection of the public.

HISTORIQUE

2013
The APDIQ becomes a member of CIDQ, the Council for Interior Design Qualification, responsible for the NCIDQ exam.

2012
The APDIQ joins the national association IDC (Interior Designers of Canada).

2011
Creation and registration of the certification mark ‘Designer d’intérieur certifié APDIQ®’.

2003
A new association emerges – The Association of Professional Interior Designers of Quebec (APDIQ) – with a new mission and specific objectives.

2002
The Society of Interior Designers of Quebec (SDIQ) ends its activity.

1994
Over the years, the Interior Decorators Society of Quebec brings refinement to « Interior design » and changes its name for pour Société des designers d’intérieur du Québec (SDIQ) / The Society of Interior Designers of Quebec (SDIQ).

1975
The IDSQ confirms the meaning of Interior design and defines the skills and the educational programme related to it.

1966
The word Design is used for the first time within the Interior Decorators Society of Quebec (IDSQ).

1946
Quebec’s legislature confirms the existence of The Interior Decorators Society of Quebec (IDSQ), and in French the Société des décorateurs ensembliers du Québec (SDEQ).

1935
These five shopkeepers, obtain the accreditation of the association by patent letters, obtiennent l’accréditation de l’association par lettres patentes, through the third part of the Bill on corporations of Quebec, with the adoption of the Chapter 270 of the Bill of Interior Decorators of Quebec.

1933
Five shopkeepers gather at the Windsor Hotel to cast the foundations of an Association that will be named the Interior Decorators Association of Quebec.
